"Do not name schools after donors for now '

CHANDIGARH: Punjab and Haryana high court on Tuesday directed the Haryana government to keep in abeyance its policy of appointing government schools and other institutions after those donor funds. The guidelines were approved by the HC while hearing a petition filed by retired director Iqbal Singh.

When the matter came to hearing, the division bench of HC comprising Acting Chief Justice (ACJ) Jasbir Singh and Justice Rakesh Kumar Jain, noted that according to media reports, the Haryana government has a policy of naming government schools and other institutions after the donors. Bench directed the Haryana government to keep the policy on hold until further notice and to file an answer to justify. On April 22, the HC had stayed the operations of a similar policy framed by the government of Punjab to name schools / institutions after donors.

However, the Punjab government on Tuesday said the policy has been framed to attract the participation of eminent personalities / local organizations in the development of schools.

I was out that 189 schools had been named the people who had served the society or have sacrificed their lives for the country. These cases have been approved without any monetary consideration. However, only 40 schools have been named in the donation policy. So far, about Rs 3.59 million rupees as a donation has been received by this policy. Beyond that, in 17 cases the entire building has been donated. Along with the answer, a list of the five government schools are also given in change of name is being considered after receipt of the donation.
