CHANDIGARH: Following the increase of snatching incidents, the city police are setting up special checkpoints at various locations from noon to 15:00 and from 18:00 to 21:00, when most of these cases are reported.
On Tuesday, police challaned 200 violators and confiscated about 20 vehicles.
The cops said, "We zeroed in on the vulnerable locations and time intervals after checking out the latest snatching cases."
"The checkpoints are being established in busy market places and near parking areas crowded. Moreover challaning offenders, about 20 vehicles were confiscated after drivers could not produce their documents. We suspect that these vehicles were stolen or had been used in crimes, "said a police official. To ensure that personal crisis does not affect the unit, the police are taking the help of Indian Reserve Battalion jawans. More than 3,000 vehicles are being checked daily.
On an average, one snatching are reported every day in the city.

Pritpal Singh, a resident of Maloya, police said Wednesday that two people stole his mobile phone, cash and watch late Tuesday night. The accused have been identified.
Rohit Sharma, a resident of Kansal village, complained that 25 Sector man snatched the money from him near sectors 25 and 38 of the spot light Tuesday night.
Jatinder Pal Kaur, a resident of Kharar, filed a complaint that two men on a black motorcycle went away after snatching her gold chain in Sector 44 on Wednesday.
