Indoor stadium project far from finish line

Ludhiana: Nine years ago, when the MC began construction of an indoor stadium on the way Pakhowal were thrilled athletes from various fields. But his dreams were short lived as the project was stuck between obstacles.
To date, the first phase of the project (construction of the building and the roof of the stadium) could not be completed. April 30 is the deadline that the MC did not comply. Last year in July, the civic body said the stadium would be ready by August. However, the deadline for the completion of Phase 1 had to be expanded (April 30), due to technical problems.
The main reason for the delay was crispy bottom, the MC has long faced. In the absence of funds, the project is progressing at snail's pace. The work can not be accelerated as the MC can not employ a number of workers. The construction of the stadium started in 2004 by then Commissioner MC. But construction stalled in 2007 only to resume in May 2010.
So far, only 25% of the roof is completed. The work is being delayed due to lack of funds and settlement of accounts. As many as 26 million rupees rupees was required to complete Phase 1 of the project.
"The completion of the roof can take a month. Changing elsewhere crane to take at least two weeks," said Zahir Khan, supervising engineer on site.
At this stage, there would be provisions for at least 25 sports. Once ready, it would be able to accommodate about 5,000 people. The first phase also includes the construction of underground parking for visitors twice with 300 vehicles at a time.
Another reason for the delay was that the MC could not get the roof designs completed on time. There were technical problems with other designs of the stadium, because the Sports Authority of India has provided no-objection certificate (NOC) at the stadium. Even then, the MC decided to go ahead with the project.
Phase II of the project includes the building wiring, bidding for shops, air conditioning, fabric sheets on the roof, the implementation of fire fighting equipment and lifts etc. This stadium has 74 stores in the building. This part of the project will cost approximately Rs 27 million rupees to the MC.
However, no new deadline has been set for the project so far. "We will do everything possible to arrange for funds to meet the project deadline.'s One of the most important projects of the city," said MC Commissioner Rakesh Verma.
