CHANDIGARH:
Concerned about the disappearance of sparrows in the city, the agency
conducted a nationwide survey on bird species, Bombay Natural History
Society (BNHS), UT forest department wants to conduct a study on the people around the wildlife sanctuary to locate sparrow. Society suggests the probability of detecting the bird is larger in these areas.
The bird has been seen by very few people in Chandigarh as part of the project "Citizen Sparrow" with only one participant stating that sparrows had sighted in the wildlife sanctuary.
Karthik K, a spokesman BNHS, said, "forest department should take action on the matter, as is the government agency responsible for the flora and fauna. Yet at the same time sparrows, as the name suggests, are closely related humans and live where humans live. therefore sparrows are not in forest areas, but the peoples of the forest area where people are present, are likely to have sparrows ".
UT forest and wildlife department has not conducted any local study on the current state of the sparrows in the city.
Ashwani Kumar, who met with sparrows in Sukhna Wildlife Sanctuary, said he saw the five 30 birds in the forest area, which is a few kilometers from the residential colonies in Chandigarh.
Only five people had said sparrows spotted in Chandigarh in the recent past. However, the company said that the results presented in the survey report are based solely on input from members of the public from different parts of India. Because this was an opportunistic study, the number of responses varied widely in different regions and cities. In particular, the information was much higher than that of the cities of the cities and towns.
There is no reason why the sparrows established disappeared from the cityscape. It is believed that the arrival of mobile phone towers could have contributed.
"I could see sparrows in my residential society until about 2004-2005 and Video Graphic remember some of them. But from a mobile tower in the neighborhood arose in 2005, the sparrows have declined rather not look at all" Sumit said, who spotted a sparrow in Shakti Apartments, Sector 14, Panchkula, recently.
