Chandigarh will have to part 9 MGD (40 million liters per day) of water channel next year. So get 6MGD Panchkula and Chandimandir 3 MGD. You can make more parchment next summer, with the season and leave the UT below 15-20 MGD of precious resource.
The water will be released to both areas according to a sharing agreement signed by drinking water Chandigarh, Punjab and Haryana governments in 1983. Punjab already taking its share of Bhakra Dam, but part of Haryana was being used by Chandigarh since.
"Supply Chandigarh 9MGD fall next year, because we have to supply water to Panchkula and Chandimandir by arrangement. Already are supplying water 3 MGD to Chandimandir. Now, we will have to give another 3 MGD," said SS Bidda, chief engineer of the municipal corporation.
NK Verma, superintendent engineer of Panchkula municipal corporation, said: "We are laying the canal water pipes in our area. Chandigarh MC will do the same in your area. The city requires of you now."
At present, the availability of water is 87 MGD UT. Of this, 67 MGD comes form Kajauli canal, which is about 27 kilometers from Chandigarh, and the remaining 20 MGD is generated through wells.
