Chandigarh April 23:
Punjab Chief Minister Mr. Parkash Singh Badal today sought the personal intervention of Union Minister of Communications and Information Technology Mr. Kapil Sibal to put in place a mechanism for issuing local mobile SIM cards for NRIs, on the basis of non-Indian passport.
In a letter to Mr Sibal, Chief Minister reported that NRI faces many difficulties in obtaining SIM cards phones during their visit to India, as they do not have any local identification. Remember that this was one of the main issues raised by the ministers, MPs, MLAs, councilors and mayors from around the world who had come to participate in the Punjabi NRI Samellan held on 4 and 5 January 2013, organized by the state government in Chandigarh and Jalandhar.
The Chief Minister Mr. Sibal impressed to get this genuine demand of NRIs thoroughly examined immediately and issue the necessary guidelines to allow local mobile SIM cards in order to mitigate their hardships.
