Cairo: The mystery of a 28-month-old fetus found in the stomach of a mummy in Egypt has been solved. This embryo was safe in the mother's stomach for the last 2000 years. It had remained a mystery to scientists since its discovery in 2021. It is now reported that this embryo was preserved through acidification after the woman's body disintegrated. The process is similar to that of storing a pickle. In April last year, a team of researchers from the University of Warsaw revealed the presence of the unborn child's remains through CT and X-ray scans.

It is believed to be the oldest embryo in the world. This embryo was taken from Egypt to Poland about 200 years ago. This mummy was donated to the University of Warsaw in December 1826. It was then believed that this mummy belonged to a woman, but in the 1920s, the name of an Egyptian priest was found written on it. The university team has been working on this ancient Egyptian mummy since 2015. When scans last year showed a tiny leg inside Mummy's belly, she understood what had hit her hand.

The woman did not die during childbirth
Researchers studied the position of the fetus and the birth canal and told that this mysterious woman did not die during childbirth. At the time of death, the fetus present in this woman's abdomen was 26 to 30 weeks old. The team hopes that it is quite possible that other pregnant mummies are also kept in different museums around the world. So we need to examine them all. The mysterious woman and her unborn child have been studied by archaeologist and paleopathologist Marjena Olarek-Szilke and colleagues from the University of Warsaw in Poland.

Big puzzle was made for the expert
A big puzzle in front of the experts was how the embryo was left inside the woman. The organs of the deceased were removed to make mummies, so why were the embryos not separated? Earlier it was believed that there could be some religious reason behind this. The investigation team raised the possibility that they may have believed that the unborn child did not have a soul and would be safe in the next world, or that there might have been a risk of harm to the woman's body in removing it.
