CHANDIGARH: The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has selected eight doctors of PGI faculty for its prestigious awards.
The awards have been earned by the head pediatric medicine department Sunit Singhi, Department of Dermatology, Venereology and head leprology AJ Kanwar, Department of Hepatology head RK Dhiman, Professor Surjit Singh pediatric medicine department, Prof. Dr. Medhi Additional department Bikash pharmacology, Dr. Akshay Anand associate professor, department of neurology, Dr Ritesh Agarwal associate professor of pulmonary medicine department and associate professor Jasmina Ahluwalia hematology department.
Professor Singhi has been awarded the ICMR Amrut Mody Unichem Prize 2010 for research in child health.
He made original contributions in understanding fluid, electrolytes and body water compartments in bacterial meningitis, pneumonia and newborns, and the mechanisms of lung injury after fluid overload.
While Professor Kanwar has been awarded the ICMR Kandhari Lala Ram Chand Award 2010 for his work in therapy and other aspects of vitiligo, Professor Dhiman has been selected for the Basanti Devi Amir Chand Prize 2009 to recognize his contribution in the field of hepatology .
Professor Surjit has been awarded the ICMR Kalawati Jagmohan Das Chaturvedi Memorial Award 2010 for his outstanding work and extensive research on Kawasaki disease for many years.
Dr Bikash Medhi has been honored with Dr. DN Prasad Memorial Award Prayer. Dr. Akshay has been awarded the National Prize for Young Scientists, also known as Shakuntala Amir Chand Prize for his outstanding contribution to the understanding of the molecular mechanisms of neurodegeneration.
He was also runner-NASI-Scopus prestigious award for life sciences in 2012.
Dr. Agarwal has been awarded the prestigious Kamal Satbir ICMR 2009.
The award was presented to Dr. Agarwal for his outstanding research on allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis.
Dr. Ahluwalia has been awarded the prestigious ICMR Prayer BGRC Silver Jubilee Award 2010 for his outstanding research in the field of thrombotic disorders and antiphospholipid syndrome.
