Former Prime Minister Capt Amarinder Singh today accused Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal of trying to politically exploit the plight of farmers doing them (farmers) to reach Punjab Vidhan Sabha on Friday for the special session to protest against wealth tax on agricultural land within 8 km city.
The former Prime Minister said that if Mr Badal is really serious and sincere with farmers, must go to meet the Prime Minister and Minister of Finance of the Union better. "The holding of a meeting of the Assembly on a question that is not his (whole) amount to either ridicule or poor farmers whose cause you claim to protect," he remarked.
Capt Amarinder said Mr Badal was simply playing politics by convening a special session of the Vidhan Sabha when he knew the Vidhan Sabha had no jurisdiction or authority over land wealth tax onagriculture. He said that, unlike the Law of Treaties Cassation of water that could be passed in the Vidhan Sabha and implemented, the issue of wealth tax is within the jurisdiction of the Government of India and the ministry and the overall offinance state can not do anything about it.
