Poll 2022: City colleges gear up to contribute in festival of democracy

With the Punjab elections just around the corner, colleges from across the city, too, have jumped in to give their contribution in the voting process.

A unique model pink polling booth was inaugurated at Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya. Principal Dr Ajay Sareen supervised the setting up of the polling booth which was inaugurated by Ghanshyam Thori, Deputy Commissioner, along with Aashika Jain, ADC (Urban Development) and Ojasawi Alankar, Assistant Commissioner (under-training), Surjit Lal and Dr Anjana Bhatia, Dean Innovation and Research, HMV, Jalandhar.

The model booth has been decorated with flowers, plants, pink banner, ribbons and paper craft. It is one of the unique noting venues. A festive welcome will be given to the voters in an all woman-managed booth with elegantly decorated gazebos, red carpets, selfie points, nail art corner, refreshment arrangements, Verka booth, waiting lounge with tea vending machine, creche facility and PwD friendly facilities.

Volunteers from HMV task force, NSS and NCC will be acting as Chon Mittars and have been given special training to help PwD and elderly voter's wheelchairs and e-vehicles are also provided. Special Covid/isolation room, mediation room and help desk have also been set up. All Covid precautions like social distance, sanitizers, dispensing food machines, gloves, masks etc. are being provided at the booth.

Deputy Commissioner Thori further said beautiful paintings, rangoli, queue management will give pleasant vibes to the voters. Dr Seema Marwaha, Dean Academics, Urvashi Mishra, Dean Student Council, Sonia Mahindru and Harmanu, Dr Shailendra, Pankaj, Lakhwinder and Ravi Maini were also present.

Fashion show on ethical voting at KMV

Kanya Maha Vidyalaya volunteers also attempted to make citizens aware of their voting rights. A special fashion show on the topic of 'Ethical Voting' was organised by students in view of the Punjab Assembly elections, the recording of which was also broadcast by Doordarshan Jalandhar Kendra. Principal Prof Atima Sharma Dwivedi said it was the responsibility of all citizens to exercise our voting right and to choose the right government by using our vote wisely so that positive steps can be taken towards the development of our country. The Principal lauded the efforts of Dr Harpreet and Ashima Sahni for mentoring and motivating the students.

GNDU media department

Ahead of Punjab elections, the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, GNDU, Ladhewali, started a signature campaign among staff and students of regional campus to create awareness among voters regarding their duties as a voter. They pledged to vote conscientiously in the coming elections. Dr Namarta Joshi, Head of the department, said, "If we wish to fulfil our demands through elections, we should also fulfil our duties as citizens of our country by voting for good representatives".
