716 FIRs lodged, Rs7.76L seized after imposition of poll code Feb 18th 2022, 03:32 Amritsar, February 17 The Punjab Police have registered 716 FIRs in connection with violation of norms, carrying illegal weapons, seizure of liquor or drugs and recovery of Rs7.76 lakh cash after the imposition of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC). Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Electoral Officer Gurpreet Singh Khaira said flying teams of the city as well as the rural police had also recovered over 3,325 litre of illegal English wine, 57,435 litre of lahan, 1.805 kg of heroin and 25,989 intoxicating tablets in separate cases. Zero tolerance was adopted towards violation of the MCC, the DC said. The police also seized two revolvers, 13 pistols with 68 live cartridges, two magazines and 4.75kg of RDX, the DC added. Out of 716 FIRs, 60 were of the NDPS Act, 335 of the Excise Act, 10 of illegal weapons and seven for the defacement of public property, the DC said. The static surveillance teams (SST) also confiscated 61,000 US dollars and 252.930 gm of gold, the DC added. Meanwhile, 10,660 polling officials have been deputed for conducting polls in 11 Assembly constituencies of the Amritsar district. Today, third and final training of the staff was conducted at different places in the presence of respective returning officers. The DC visited training centres and appreciated and encouraged the polling staff. He also interacted with them. Every booth would have a micro observer, who would report to the Election Commission, the DC said. "Every booth will be under the CCTV surveillance, which will be connected with the main server so that every returning officer and district election officers could watch it," the DC added.
