An assistant sub-inspector of the Punjab police, Gurdev Singh was shot dead by unknown assailants in the Jalandhar-Phagwara road on Sunday.
Singh reportedly said a car to stop for a routine check, but when the car did not stop Singh and other policemen chased. Unidentified people in the car, apparently started shooting at the police.
A bullet hit Singh in the chest and died instantly, according to reports. Police have not yet identified the four or five people in the car.
