Legal Fraternity walks with a "green" message


CHANDIGARH: The Lawyer and Associates International (JAI), members of the Punjab and Haryana Bar Association Supreme Court, Chandigarh and other celebrated Earth Week by participating in a walk, organized on Wednesday at 7 Open Hand Capitol Complex in Rose Garden, Sector 16.

Along with 400 participants including lawyers, students and people from various NGOs, 17 judges of the High Court of Punjab and Haryana, including female judges participated in the walk to bring home the message to save Mother Earth.

Acting Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Justice Jasbir Singh marked the hike and urged people to conserve natural resources and the land-water level in view of the natural resources of ozone.

Justice Surya Kant of the HC told the participants to change their habits to conserve natural resources and create awareness around them about the fast depleting natural resources.

As part of the hike, the New Public School Sector 18B organized a drawing competition on the theme of "save Mother Earth". Tanya Singh Aashiana Public School stood first public school Jagroop Gem was the first runner and Varda of New Public School was the second finalist.

In order to appreciate the city's green initiatives, energy efficient solar buildings HAREDA, Panchkula and environment department and sciences at Sector-19, Chandigarh, were awarded. The directors of those departments received awards. JHA Secretary Vikas Chatrath said such initiatives are organized from time to time people aware of their rights and duties in society. Dr Anmol Rattan Sidhu, president of the bar praised the efforts of judges get together for this cause.
