Amritsar April 24:
Traders have accused workers in the integrated checkpoint Attari from overcharging of them, keeping the trade between India and Pakistan to ransom. Confederation of International Trade and Industry spokesman said the workers deployed in ICP Attari charges collected, even for jobs that do not require manpower.
The spokesman cited an example, saying that managing Pakistan imported drywall is done mechanically, but the workers are forced to pay the fees for the same. He said charges are being levied even for the shipment of goods from the self. Importers and exporters have made clear that they would pay the labor costs only when physical manipulation is required for handling shipments. The current labor rates are higher than what is being charged in Jalandhar and Ludhiana dry port.
