This was after the BJP legislators demanded a statement by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee over "worsening" law and order situation in the state. The BJP later claimed that several party legislators were roughed up by TMC MLAs. The Speaker has suspended 5 BJP MLAs for unruly conduct.

Three-time MLA Pramod Sawant, who led the BJP to win 20 seats in the recently concluded elections, was sworn in as the state's chief minister for the second time. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other dignitaries attended the oath-taking ceremony.
