Elaborate security at critical poll stations Feb 19th 2022, 01:32 Amritsar, February 18 The city has some hot seats which is going to see a tough fight between the candidates and the police have been on toes to provide security and maintain peace and law and order during the poll. The city has around 50 per cent of polling stations categorised as critical while rural police have as many as 187 critical locations. In view of this, elaborate arrangements were being made, said police authorities. Out of 11 assembly constituencies in Amritsar, five falls in the city. These are Amritsar North, Amritsar South, Amritsar East, Amritsar West and Amritsar Central. In Amritsar North, East and South, the candidates face a high-stakes contest. Deputy Commissioner of Police, Law and Order, Parminder Singh Bhandal said the strength of CRPF personnel had almost been doubled in critical polling stations. Besides, Punjab Police personnel were also deputed for ensuring a peaceful atmosphere during the poll. "With just one day left for the polling, we are in the process of deputing cops and CRPF jawans at different polling stations as per their category and current prevailing situation. He said out of 320 polling stations in the city, 163 were critical. He said elaborate arrangements were being made and nobody would be allowed to deteriorate law and order. He said search operations was being carried out in hotels and inns to check outsiders and those who could create trouble during the poll. Outsiders were asked to leave the station and go to their native constituencies. Deepak Hilori, SSP, Amritsar Rural, said there were 187 critical locations in the Amritsar rural belt where polling to six assembly constituencies would be held. These are Attari, Ajnala, Jandiala, Baba Bakala and Rajasansi. He said the police had already taken preventive measures against trouble makers while CRPF personnel had been deployed at the polling stations along with Punjab Police personnel.
