Refusing to accept the declaration of a junior level officer explaining the missing files contain Punjab Secretariat 35 chargesheets and inquiries against eight officers of IAS 27 and PCS officers, the Punjab and Haryana High Court demanded an affidavit of at least one official secretary level.
The Punjab government has also been directed to submit a detailed affidavit of the time required to rebuild the files. The court also ordered a report on the investigation conducted by the Chandigarh Police. Addresses have been taken during the resumed hearing of a PIL filed by Advocate HC Arora, who moved the court seeking directions to rebuild the 35 missing files and demanded a CBI investigation.
The first to report on the matter and appreciated Division Bench tab, noting that the newspaper had reported that "such a serious matter would not have come to light." A Punjab law officer said Tuesday that up to nine of the 35 missing files have been rebuilt. Another brief reply was filed by the UT Police by Deputy Superintendent of Police (Chandigarh) stating that an FIR has been registered against Yog Raj Sharma, former Deputy Secretary (Personnel). Meanwhile, the counsel submitted a petition to the court that the investigation be handed over to CBI. The request now goes on the hearing resumed on April 30.
