ROHTAK: Five months after his acquittal on a dacoity and extortion case in Panipat, controversial police service officer of Haryana and former head of the special working group of the State (STF) Ashok Sheoran, 43, was found again on the wrong side of the law when he allegedly opened fire on people in village Kheri Bura Bhiwani district.
Although no one was injured in the incident, police have booked the sections 307 (attempt to murder) and 285 (negligent conduct with respect to fire or combustible matter) of the IPC on Saturday in denouncing the village panchayat.
Sheoran had gone to an ashram headed by Mahant Sureshanand located on the outskirts of village Kheri Bura Friday night. A police officer investigating the case said Sheoran, who is a disciple of Mahant, opened fire after he complained to him against the villagers. He fired his gun three times, police said, but the 10-odd people, including members of the village panchayat present there escaped being hurt.
Then the panchayat on Saturday lodged a complaint and the police booked the police.
In March 2010, Sheoran was booked by the police in Panipat dacoity, robbery and criminal conspiracy along with eight members of the STF who had been running as assistant superintendent of police (ASP) at the time.
Sheoran and all former STF members were acquitted by a Panipat court in November 2012.
Sheoran also charged with harboring a criminal in his official residence during his posting as DSP in Fatehabad in 2001.
Also raised questions about its operation, when his gun apparently disappeared during a meeting and later the same weapon was used in the murder of Delhi Police encounter specialist ACP Rajbir Singh.
Meanwhile, a villager said Sheoran had apologized at a meeting of the panchayat on Sunday and panchayat has decided to withdraw the complaint.
However, Dadri Desraj Singh SHO Sadar police station said police had no information about the commitment.
